Impact of microcredit programmes on women empowerment: an empirical study in West Bengal

    Get PDF
Based on an empirical study in West Bengal, this paper attempts to examine whether women‟s involvement in the microcredit programme through SHGs makes any positive change on women‟s empowerment that appears from the assessment on various indicators of power, autonomy and self-reliance, entitlement, participation , awareness and capacity-building. The study suggests that if women participating in the microcredit programme through SHGs sustain for some longer period (eight years or more), such a programme might contribute to higher level of women‟s empowerment than all types of control groups under studyWomen‟s empowerment; Power, Autonomy and Self-reliance; Entitlement; Participation and Awareness and Capacity-building

On the information entropy of matter-waves in quasi-disorder potentials

We consider ultracold Bose gases in quasi-random potentials and quantify localization of matter waves by means of Shannon information entropy. We explicitly examine the role of quasi-random potentials in producing localized states in the linear and nonlinear regimes. It is seen that the information entropic-based approach can be more useful to quantify localization of different types of states observed in Bose-Einstein condensates.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure

Flight Dynamics-based Recovery of a UAV Trajectory using Ground Cameras

We propose a new method to estimate the 6-dof trajectory of a flying object such as a quadrotor UAV within a 3D airspace monitored using multiple fixed ground cameras. It is based on a new structure from motion formulation for the 3D reconstruction of a single moving point with known motion dynamics. Our main contribution is a new bundle adjustment procedure which in addition to optimizing the camera poses, regularizes the point trajectory using a prior based on motion dynamics (or specifically flight dynamics). Furthermore, we can infer the underlying control input sent to the UAV's autopilot that determined its flight trajectory. Our method requires neither perfect single-view tracking nor appearance matching across views. For robustness, we allow the tracker to generate multiple detections per frame in each video. The true detections and the data association across videos is estimated using robust multi-view triangulation and subsequently refined during our bundle adjustment procedure. Quantitative evaluation on simulated data and experiments on real videos from indoor and outdoor scenes demonstrates the effectiveness of our method

An Econometric Analysis of Domestic Aviation in the US

In this dissertation, we examine two dimensions of domestic aviation - demand and delay - that directly influence economic impact of the sector. We conduct a comprehensive analysis of airline demand employing airline data compiled by Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The demand analysis is conducted in three steps. First, we propose a novel modeling approach for modeling airline demand evolution over time. Specifically, we develop a joint panel group generalized ordered probit (GGOP) model system for modeling air passenger arrivals and departures in a discretized framework that subsumes the traditional linear regression approach. Further, we consider the influence of observed and unobserved effects on airline demand across multiple time periods. Second, we explore the impact of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on domestic airline demand in the US. The effect of COVID-19 on airline demand is identified by considering global and local COVID-19 transmission, temporal indicators of pandemic start and progress, and interactions of airline demand predictors with global and local COVID-19 indicators. Based on the results, we present a blueprint for airline demand recovery using three hypothetical scenarios of COVID-19 transmission rates – expected, pessimistic and optimistic. Finally, we build on the novel airline demand modeling framework by accommodating for observed and unobserved spatial and temporal effects. Specifically, we develop spatial lag model and spatial error model formulations of the GGOP model proposed in the first step. The second part of the dissertation is focused on flight level delay analysis. In this part, we identify the factors affecting flight level airline delay by jointly modeling departure and arrival delays. Towards this end, we develop a novel copula-based group generalized ordered logit model system that accommodates for the influence of common observed and unobserved effects on flight departure and arrival delays

A Comparative Note on Tunneling in AdS and in its Boundary Matrix Dual

For charged black hole, within the grand canonical ensemble, the decay rate from thermal AdS to the black hole at a fixed high temperature increases with the chemical potential. We check that this feature is well captured by a phenomenological matrix model expected to describe its strongly coupled dual. This comparison is made by explicitly constructing the kink and bounce solutions around the de-confinement transition and evaluating the matrix model effective potential on the solutions.Comment: 1+12 pages, 9 figure

A Review on Forwarding Strategies in NDN based Vehicular Networks

    Get PDF
Named Data Networking (NDN) is a model that has been proposed by many researchers to alter the long-established IP based networking model. It derives the content centric approach rather than host-based approach. This is gaining even more traction in the wireless network and is able to replace the conventional IP-based networking. Up to now, NDN has proven to be fruitful when used with certain limitations in vehicular networks. Vehicular networks deal with exchanging information across fast moving complex vehicle network topology. The sending and receiving of information in such a scenario acts as a challenge and thus requires an effective forwarding strategy to address this problem. Different research work has provided with multiple forwarding strategy that solves the current problem up to some limit but further research work is still longed for to get an optimum solution. This paper provides a brief survey on current existing forwarding strategies related to vehicular networks using NDN as well as providing information on various resources and technologies used in it
